The Custom Authorities require in case of Imports to clear the Shipments
When the exporter sends the shipments then also IEC Code is required.
Also required if the exporter is supposed to receive money in foreign currency and it is to be directly transferred to his account.
I.E.C code is a 10 digit identification number that is issued by the Director General of
Foreign Trade (DGFT) which is the Department of Commerce,Government of India.
It is mandatory for Companies and businesses to obtain this code to commence a business that deals with import or export of goods.
Whereas in case of services IEC is required |only for specified services or specified technologies in which international trade is restricted by the Government of India as they pertain to national security, such as dealing in nuclear weapons, automatic guns etc.
The validity of this code is for Lifetime
